“Endless Summer” Artist, John Van Hamersveld, Unveils New Mural
PS&M Communication Arts has the honor of working with legendary artist, John Van Hamersveld, by managing the press for his new mural unveiling this past Sunday at the Underground Pub & Grill in Hermosa Beach, California. The event was a PR success as we secured 5 television crews: Channel 11, 5, 9, 2 and Voice of America, along with coverage by LA Times, Daily Breeze, The Beach Reporter, Easy Reader News, Peninsula People, South Bay Magazine, Surfer Today, and more.
He is known for creating the iconic “Endless Summer” surf movie poster along with some of the world’s most recognized album covers including the Beatles’ “Magical Mystery Tour”, the Rolling Stones’ “Exile on Main St.”, the Beach Boys’ “Made in California”, and Jefferson Airplane’s “Crown of Redemption”. Both the 1966 “Endless Summer” and 1968 Jimi Hendrix Experience posters are in the permanent collection of the New York Museum of Modern Art.
The mural, “Hermosa’s Great Wave,” illustrates the evolution of surfboards through time. He visually expresses this narrative through silhouettes of three surfers, each holding a surfboard representing a distinct era. The image overlays a collage of colorful, abstract shapes among an expansive, all-powerful wave.
